SUMMARY:LFWI - Tours and Excursions Sub-Committee: Towneley Hall and Queen Street Mill Textile Museum
DESCRIPTION:Pick up times will be confirmed nearer the day\, but it is planned to leave Carnforth at 9am\, Barton at 9.30am and Leyland at 9.45am. We will leave Queen Street Mill at approximately 4pm. \nWe start the day with a guided tour of Towneley Hall\, set in 400 acres of parkland\, which houses a unique collection of treasures from around the world. The collection includes some wonderful paintings\, Egyptian artefacts\, a Peruvian mummy and Bill the Bear. The Hall was the setting for BBC’s Antiques Roadshow last year. \nWe then move on to Queen Street Mill\, the last surviving operational steam-powered mill in the world\, where we will take a guided tour and relive the days when cotton was king. The mill is a time capsule of the late Victorian age and the impressive vast weaving shed featured in a scene from the Oscar winning film “The King’s Speech”. Both the Hall and Mill have good cafe / restaurant facilities. \nIf you wish to attend this event\, please request an application form from your WI secretary\, that will need too be returned to us by the closing date of Friday 6th March.  \n
