Fun at the Picnic!

No sun, but plenty of fun at the picnic!

Well, the sunshine didn’t last, but nothing could dampen the Angels’ spirit at our second annual picnic, held this year at Garden Needs in Broughton.

40+ ladies, and several first timers, arrived at the garden centre armed with lots of goodies for all to share. The quiches were divine, the sausage rolls plump and tasty and the cakes gooey, crumbly and heavenly.
The meeting time was kept to a minimum, but President Suzanne Rigg had the great pleasure of handing out thank you’s and gifts to people involved in the bike ride to Denman. Honorary women Gordon, Adam & Mike received a well deserved case of beer each for their massive help of driving the support vehicles and providing the minibus free of charge, a big thanks also went to Lorraine Meacher & Phillipa Roberts for braving foul weather at the Quays to come and see us off at the start of the 2 day slog, and finally a framed picture of the bike ride was presented to Rosemary Blanchfield, our first WI advisor and great friend who joined us all the way to Oxfordshire.

As well as great food and company, the ladies had a chance to talk to sub group members about different activities available like arts & crafts, choir, local history, and photography to name but a few.

There was also the chance to suggest ideas for next years program, some of the ladies I spoke to had some very interesting ideas including ‘a day at the races’, ‘hypnotism’ and  ‘a walking weekend’.

At the end of the evening the winner and runner-up of our very own ‘Great British Bake-Off’ competition were announced, judged by Rosemary Blanchfield and our cake-tasting master Emma Smith. 2nd place went to Sam Smith and her rich chocolate truffle cake, but 1st prize went to Diane Birchall and her amazing coconut cake, well done both of you.
