Hello and welcome to Salford Angels W.I.
If you’re interested in Salford Angels WI and thinking about coming to a meeting, but you’re thinking ‘Am I too young? Or too old?’ The answer is, No!
Salford Angels was part of a new wave urban WI movement back in 2011 with members of all ages. Salford Angels is part of a long and glorious history of women empowering women, which started in Great Britain in 1915 when The Women’s Institute began.
How we began…….
In October 2011 a few women had a crazy idea to start our very own WI We realised there are lots of fabulous women already doing amazing things all over the city, so why not share our skills and knowledge and have some fun along the way.
Our first meeting in November 2011 was chaos, thank goodness for Rosemary, our first Lancashire W.I. Advisor. Hey, we’re in Lancashire again!!
By December with lots of fantastic support we were ready to go. We had enough women to form a committee and our first meeting was up and running. We continued to grow month by month as more women heard about us through Facebook, twitter, local press and of course from our infamous pub crawl, yes we were the ones trolling up Chapel Street in purple t-shirts with sashes.
Salford Angels has been through a few homes, from our initial Angels Centre beginning’s, through to our new home at St Lukes RC Church Hall. We try out best to find accessible venues with public transport and decent parking.
All our monthly meetings have been varied and interesting with something for everyone. We have a jam packed schedule for 2023 – 2024 but are always looking for new ideas and suggestions from new members.
