National Choir Competition ‘ Singing for Joy’

Regular readers of the Salford Angels WI column will be aware of the national choir competition, ‘Singing for Joy’ that is being held to celebrate 100 years of the WI, as we have regularly being updating the progress of our choir as they prepare. Having qualified for the regional finals back in January, the heats are approaching fast and will be held in Ilkley on 15th November.

It is surprising just how quickly the regional finals have arrived and the choir have been busy preparing their chosen songs, a mixture of modern pop and traditional songs, with the hopes of impressing the WI judges. The choir have been working very hard over the last few months to perfect the songs, but have also had a lot of fun in the process. The ladies and their supporters will be piling onto a minibus and heading over to Ilkley, keeping their fingers crossed and hoping to qualify for the finals. The national final takes place next year in Birmingham, so stay tuned to this column, as there will be an update in a couple of weeks of how we choir did in the heats.

As well as the choir competition, there is also a concert taking place in Lancaster next year to celebrate 100 years of the Lancashire Federation of Women’s Institutes that the Salford Angels will be taking part in. We will keep you up to date with news of the concert and the choir.
