A Choir of Angels

If you are a regular reader of this column, you may remember that Salford Angels WI will be forming a choir and entering the national WI competition ‘Singing for Joy’ which forms part of their centenary celebrations in 2015. Choir from WI’s up and down the country will be competing for the honour of singing Jerusalem at the Annual General Meeting in 2015.

Competition aside, at the first choir rehearsal which took place last month, the Angels discovered the uplifting benefits of singing, with the help of our teacher Kimberley Holden (who was impressed with us.) We left the rehearsal on a high and couldn’t wait for the next one. Whether we get anywhere in the competition or not, we all enjoyed the experience and I think the choir will keep going from strength to strength.

The first song that we have been learning is, of course, the WI anthem Jerusalem, which we hope to be performing for the Salford Angels at one of our upcoming meetings. We have also been learning some songs in the Zulu language, which we very much enjoyed. Kimberley even taught us some harmonies on the songs. We have a growing list of songs that we would like to add to our repertoire, spanning different styles.

The next choir rehearsal will be taking place in April, where we hope to build on the things that we have learnt so far and master those harmonies. You never know, you might just hear more about the Salford Angels choir and a certain competition.
