July 2012 meeting – Picnic Party
On 19th July we broke out the bunting and had a good old fashioned British picnic at Beesley Green – rain included!
But we certainly didn’t let the soggy weather dampen our spirits and the hall was beautifully decorated to help showcase Salford Angels WI. We were very happy to meet so many new women who came to see what we’re about and offer lots of new ideas – so much so we nearly couldn’t fit everyone in! With our official mascot Peggy dutifully on guard outside to warn us of any gentlemen trying to steal our food, we tucked into a veritable feast of homemade cake, sandwiches, jams, salads, biscuits and quiche. All washed down with lashings of tea!
While tucking in we had chance to see some of the new clubs on mini stalls. First up is Book and Knit Club where we meet to discuss the chosen book of the month and/or join in with the latest knitting projects. Our current book is a certain 50 Shades of Grey – should make an interesting discussion!
In the Local History Club we will be learning more about the original Salford Angels and Chapel Street – looking for your memories and stories of this changing area.
There are lots of opportunities to work off all that cake with another great bike ride or by helping out on the Angels Community Garden outside Sacred Trinity Church. We also had the chance to hold a real life Olympic Torch.
For those that like something a little less tiring we have a cinema and theatre club to enjoy the best shows in town.
And finally, the lovely Gemma provided cupcake decorating lessons with her perfectly baked cakes – a very tasty momento to take home (if it made it home in one piece!).
We look forward to seeing all our new ladies at our next meeting on Thursday 16th August!
