August 2012 meeting – BBC Radio talk!

This week the Salford Angels WI welcomed the enertaining Cathy Bailey for a fun, yet informative, ‘through the key hole’ view of working within the media.

A host of old and new faces assembled in the creative café at the angel centre this week for our monthly meeting. Ready to go we started by discussing future events to get involved in. The following few months sound exciting with the opening of the WI garden, the continuation of the book club, the exciting prospect of a farmers market and the decoration of a Christmas tree to keep us busy.

Alongside the future events we discussed the newly incorporated ‘buddy system’ pairing new potential members with existing members to ensure that all are welcomed with open arms.

Following the meeting we welcomed our guest speaker, Cathy Bailey from BBC Radio Manchester. Cathy gave a lively talk describing her route into the media, her ups and downs but focusing on how much she loves her job in community radio.

Cathy, coming from retail, decided to change her career 10 years ago and has not looked back since! She described the ever changing business and her varied job role which has involved the nerve-wracking task of styling Julie Goodyear for the first time, working on Blue Peter and finally producing a show on BBC Radio Manchester.

Cathy produces the Becky Want show on BBC Radio Manchester and has done for 7 years. She encourages Salford Angels to join her and Becky for her late lunch feature where 3 listeners are welcomed into the studio to discuss current and local events. You can tune into 95.1FM to hear Sam, our very own angel, contributing to the show!

Cathy was thanked for her insight into working within Media City, the raffle was drawn and cake was enjoyed. Yet another successful Salford Angels event!

Our next monthly meeting is on 20th Sept including a Clarins make-up workshop. If you would like anymore details about this or the gardening and other club activities coming up please call 07581 471530.
