Happy 1st Birthday!

This week was Salford Angels WI first birthday! It’s been a jam packed year with lots of members joining us, afternoon tea at several events and plenty of activities to keep us busy!

To celebrate a fantastic year, we had a birthday party! At our home, the Angel Centre on Chapel Street we set about our usual WI business, finding out about the next events we could get involved with.  We received some lovely flowers from One Voice WI and a card from our special guest, Rosemary who helped us set up a year ago in her role as a WI Adviser. The Angels also showed their thanks to President, Suzanne with flowers to say thank you for her hard work and determination over the last year.

There was also entertainment at the party in the form of Barrington Powell – a fellow of infinite jest! Barrington filled the Angel Centre with laughter as he showed us some magic tricks and kept us entertained with stories of his charity work performing magic on hospital wards.  Not only has Barrington performed for us at the Angel Centre, he’s been to Downing Street to entertain Cherie Blair and also British Tennis stars Andy Murray and Tim Henman!

After a belly of laughter, it was time to fill the bellies for our lovely tea party.  Each member brought along a dish or dessert and there was an array of goodies including Maria’s homemade lasagne, sausage rolls and plait and homemade tomato and herb bread. On the sweet side, there was Gemma’s chocolate and banana loaf, Mag’s chocolate cheesecake, tiramisu, scones and lemon drizzle cake – yum! To wash it down, Emma brought along some homemade elderflower champagne! There was also the raffle with three lucky winners taking home some prizes. Not to mention, the new 2013 Salford Angels calendar was on sale and copies were bought as Christmas presents for family and friends.

To end the night, it was over to Barrington to start the pig race! Six lucky ladies were chosen to take part in the pig race which was very competitive! The lucky winner, Linda won a bottle of wine to take home to carry on the celebrations!
