Angels Tour the BBC
The Angels have recently enjoyed a tour of the BBC at Media City in Salford. Tours of the building are open to the public (check out their website) and what you see will be different depending on when you go, as it is a working building and you never know which studio will be free or who just might happen to be walking through the corridors.
The Angels got a chance to see the state of the art BBC Radio 6 Music studio (with Diane in the DJ chair) where we could see the new technology that has been embraced by the BBC at Media City. The building has the largest HD studio in Europe, where large scale productions like The Voice are filmed. We also got the chance to see the BBC Philharmonic Studio, where the orchestra rehearse and sometimes perform. We were amazed as our lovely tour guides explained how the room had been designed to specifically cater to an orchestra environment, with the viewing window made of very thick glass so as not to ruin the acoustics.
We got to walk past the BBC sport area (the largest area to move up from London) and see where the sport headlines are read during news broadcasts. We also got to see the Blue Peter studio. Although it is small, we were shown a clip of the show and were able to see how it all comes together with lights, set and camera angles to create the Blue Peter set that we all know and love. Check out our picture to see the Angels on the set.
Last but not least, we were taken to a small replica of the BBC Northwest tonight studio where guests were given the chance to read the news and present the weather. Our own Jean and Joan took the opportunity to read the news headlines and did a very professional job. I think there could be a career in it for them.
The ladies thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it. It is great fun to see where your favourite shows are filmed and learn a bit about how the world of TV works.
