Sing for Joy!

2015 sees the centenary of the Women’s Institute. That’s 100 whole years of making a positive difference in the lives of women and their local communities. To celebrate this momentous achievement, the National Federation of Women’s Institutes are to hold a national choir competition; ‘Singing For Joy’.

The winners will sing at the 2015 Annual General Meeting and there are also plans for a Guinness World Record attempt to have all 210,000 WI members singing together on the centenary day.  Regional finals for the competition will take place in 2013, with the national finals following in 2014.

Never to turn down a challenge, the Angels are forming their own WI choir as part of the centenary celebrations, but also for the fun of singing. Singing can lift the spirit and be is believed to be good for you, so I think we can count it towards our ‘healthy lifestyle’ new years resolutions.

We are currently on the hunt for a singing teacher who can lead our choir and a musician who can accompany us on Piano or Keyboard. If you are interested in leading our choir or accompanying, please contact the Angels at hello@salfordangelswi.co.uk.

We are hoping to officially start the choir in early 2013, once we have found a teacher. We can then begin regular rehearsals and of course, our first song will be Jerusalem. Then the road to the 2015 competition will begin. Let battle commence!
