A great way to learn new things

One of the many reasons people join WI is to meet new people and learn new skills. In fact the first WI’s had groups to help women learn all sorts of useful skills like breeding rabbits and pigs, first aid and the best way to mend your husband’s hat!  In Salford in 2013 we might have some different interests and lifestyles (pigs don’t much like living in a flat!) but we still enjoy coming together to try something new.

As we’ve only been going to a year we have taken some time to talk to members and see what they are interested in. It’s great to find out what hidden skills our members have and how generously they give their time to help other people. Our Book Club has been going for a while and has engendered some quite heated debates! Our Knit Club has worked on some great projects to provide hats for Special Care Baby Units and little sheep for Eden Arts Project’s FLOCK 2012. Our Arts and Crafts Club will be creating some lovely projects for people to try over the coming months.

Of course we wouldn’t be a WI without a Baking Club and Gemma will be leading our ladies to whip up a storm in the kitchen and give Mary Berry a run for her money! In the great outdoors we have a thriving Gardening Club which is making the space outside Trinity Church look lovely. Our Walking Club will be lacing up their boots at the end of February to blow the cobwebs away. To find out more about Salford we have the Local History Club which will be arranging walks and talks.

All this has given us something to sing about and our choir will soon be leading us in Jerusalem!
