A Taste of Salford
On Saturday we had our first stall at A Taste of Salford. We decided not to go with the WI traditional cake and instead sold fresh, locally sourced fruit and veg, from a tasty salad bag to your Sunday Roast essentials.
Big thanks to Suzanne and Sam for getting up at 4.30am to go and get all the great produce so it was really fresh. After bagging up as much as we could in preparation we got to grips with the scales and were soon looking like proper stall holders – right down to the patter! As our president and Vice Secretary were selling their home made preserves and chutneys on their own stall, we knew there wouldn’t be any fruit wasted as it can all be preserved by out talented ladies. The same couldn’t be said of lettuces however, so we took to the lawns and marquees to sell them to bemused Salfordians – thanks for everyone who took some home, we hope you enjoyed it!
The festival took place on the lawns outside Swinton Civic Centre and brought together the very best of local produce as part of the Salford Food and Drink Festival, with a chance to find out more about Council Services, local groups and to hear Salford’s City Mayor, Ian Stewart’s priorities for the City. There were activities for all the family, freebies and even advice on how to use up any leftovers.
On Sunday we held our first Local History and photography walk of Chapel Street. Thanks for all the ladies (and gentleman) who came along and braved the cold – really looking forward to seeing some of the fantastic images at out next meeting.
