Cake? Anyone? Cake?

Bank Holidays bring many things, DIY, rain, BBQ’s traffic jams and in Salford Angels WI case a very large amount of fabulous cake!

On Saturday we supported the MS Society’s fundraising day at St Peter and Paul’s Church in Eccles. It was a lovely day full of great stalls selling home made crafts and food, tea and visits from the Ceremonial Mayor and Salford MP Hazel Blears. Both came and spoke to the Angels and offered to support our fundraising efforts for Salford Young Carers. Hope to you see you both at the start line at MediaCityUK on the 24th May!

Sunday brought Sounds from the Other City and our Afternoon Tea Room at the Angel Centre. The ladies pulled up their sleeves and got busy with baking, buttering, shopping, serving and clearing up after hungry festival goers. We even had a traditional tombola, much to the bemusement of some of the crowd who were more used to jostling for position at the bar than picking up prizes. The afternoon ended with some excellent selling techniques demonstrated by Emma, Karen, Kate and Lorraine – the Apprentice candidates have nothing on you ladies!

To compliment the Afternoon Tea, we had a fantastic photography exhibition, created with images taken by the WI. Big thanks for member Janine and her friends for arranging it and Art Imaging and Max Spielmann for sponsoring the work. We’re planning on showing and selling the images more widely soon so watch this space.

After all that we think we deserve a sit down. And a nice piece of cake?

Salford Angels WI meet on the third Thursday of the month at the Angel Centre at 6.30pm. Please check our website www.salfordangelswi.co.uk, Twitter or faceboook for more details.
