Get a buzz from your cakes!
As Great British Bake off is well under way we thought we’d share another of our favourite recipes. Member Jo is a keen baker and has wowed us with her Buzzy Bee Cakes – this week you can recreate them for yourself and share with family and friends – or have them all yourself!
Ingredients
Cakes:
113g Butter
113g Caster Sugar
113g Self Raising Flour
2 Medium Eggs
1 tsp of Vanilla Essence.
Bees:
Pack of Royal Icing
Block of marzipan
50g Icing Sugar
Water
Black Food colouring
12 lengths of florists wire
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F, 180°C
- Soften the butter and mix with the caster sugar – Keep mixing this until the butter has turned a lighter colour.
- Add in the flour, eggs and vanilla essence and mix well together.
- Divide the mixture between 12 fairy cake cases and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes. When cooked the top of the cakes will spring back into place when touched. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool.
- Roll out the Royal Icing to about 3mm thick and cut out 12 discs using a pastry cutter with a scalloped edge. Places on disc on each cake.
- Using the marzipan roll 24 small balls about the size of a pound coin but circular.
- Mix the icing sugar with a few drops of water and the black food colouring.
- Carefully using a small piping bag pipe two lines around the marzipan ball – This is for the stripes and pipe two dots at one end for the eyes. Leave to dry.
- Fold each piece of florists wire in half. Put one of the bees on each end of the wire and put the folded end through the disc and into the cake.
