Once Every Preston Guild
Last week, two members of Salford Angels were lucky enough to take part in the Community Procession of The Preston Guild along with a 60+ strong contingent of other ladies representing The Lancashire Federation W.I.
The earlier part of the week the weather had been lovely and we hoped it would stay like that until our day on Friday, alas the day started cold and damp with a threat of rain, but nothing could dampen our spirits. Armed with our colour co-ordinated brollies (laughingly referred to as sun shades) we trooped onto our double-decker bus in a sea of rainbow colours to make our way to Preston Town Centre to meet up with our float.
Once there we got a chance to soak up the atmosphere and look at all the other teams that would be joining us.
There were over 120 groups taking part in our procession ranging from Young Peoples Services and Age UK to local primary schools and church groups.
Eventually our float came along and we all stepped in behind, we were walking to our anthem ‘Jerusalem’ and had a little routine to a rather jazzed up version of the song, which included us performing a Mexican wave with our brollies, much to the delight of the thousands of spectators that lined the route.
Unfortunately the sun never shone for us, but we had an amazing day with some fantastic ladies and we can’t wait to take part in the next Guild in 2032, zimmer frames and all.
