Stand Up For Comic Relief
We in the W.I. have our fingers in many pies, and we don’t just mean apple and cinnamon.
Some of you may know that I occasionally appear as a ‘Late luncher’ on Becky Want’s BBC Radio Manchester show. It’s where 3 of us get to talk about things that our happening in our area and have a bit of ‘on air’ banter.
About 4 weeks ago, I received a phone call from Cathy Bailey, Becky’s producer asking if I’d like to be involved in Stand Up for Comic Relief with a few others from the show? I thought about it for about 2 seconds and then said yes! I hung up and thought, ‘what have I done?!’
They gave us some intensive comedy training led by the lovely and very funny Paul Graham and then on the 13th March at St Kent’s Irish Club in Fallowfield, threw us to the lions.
It was amazing, the crowd were all behind us, cheering us on and throwing the odd line and all 9 of us had great support from family, friends, the Angels W.I and Becky, Cathy and Paul.
Loads of money was raised on the night for a fantastic cause and not only did I do my bit, but I didn’t have to sit in a bath of baked beans to do it!
The Angels have also been out and about. The first Walking Club took place around Ancoats Peeps, River Irwell, Ashton and Rochdale Canals.
The Peeps are brass eye pieces set into the walls. Through these Peepholes you can glimpse a space that has been walled up for some time. Some are confusing
and there is no explanation as to what they actually are! But well worth a visit around this regenerated area.
The next Walk is on 24th March, meeting at 1pm at Worsley Courthouse. Please check the website for more details. www.salfordangelswi.co.uk
Salford Angels meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7pm, The Angel Centre, Salford. For more info phone Suzanne on 07581471530.
