LFWI Tours and Excursions Sub-Committee: National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port and Cheshire Oaks

May 6, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

£20.00

WI Member Only.

Cost: £20

The National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port is based in the historic canal docks set on the banks of Manchester Ship Canal. It was started by a group of enthusiasts passionate to preserve a vanishing way of life. The museum has large collections of boats, several which are open for inspection, and other items such as clothing, painted canal ware and tools. The collection has been designated and recognized as being of national importance. We will leave Carnforth at 8.00am and travel to Leyland for 8.30am with a pick at Haydock Thistle. On this visit we will be greeted with tea / coffee, taken around the museum, visit Porters Row of cottages and experience a 30 minute cruise with commentary on a canal boat on the Shropshire Union canal.

We will leave the museum at 1.00pm to go on to Cheshire Oaks. Here you will be able to buy your lunch and do some retail therapy. Cheshire Oaks provide a 10% voucher to coach bookings. We will leave for home at 4.00pm, arriving back in Leyland at approximately 5.00pm and then on to Carnforth.

Friends, husbands / partners are welcome to apply but priority will be given to members if over-subscribed.

If you wish to attend this event, please request an application form from our secretary or alternatively, visit the Lancashire Federation website to apply online. Closing date: Monday 31st March 2014.
