All The Pretty Girls – Book Review

All The Pretty Girls Review

This month the Angels book club read ‘All The Pretty Girls’ by J.T. Ellison. All The Pretty Girls is a crime, thriller story and the first in the Taylor Jackson series. Homicide lieutenant Taylor Jackson finds herself perusing ‘The Southern Strangler’, a vicious serial killer who leaves the severed hand of his previous victim as his calling card.  Meanwhile, Whitney Connolly, a TV reporter, sees The Southern Strangler case as the story of a lifetime and thinks she may have the answers that could solve the case.

Once again, there were different opinions during the book discussion. Some saw similarities to ‘The Poet’, one of our previous book club reads, which they found a little distracting. While some would not read any more books in this series and even found the story unmemorable, others found it to be a page turner. It is more like a crime TV drama in its style, but with more than one case being tackled at the same time, it makes for a more gripping read. Another point that some members found to be frustrating was the lack of a love interest for Taylor Jackson in the story. It was felt that a classic story of a single detective should have had some form of relationship possibility that can entwine with the rest of the story.

Despite this, our readers particularly enjoyed the ending. There was not just one good twist, but a number of them (in the style of Harlem Coburn.) All agreed that this gave the story an interesting ending.

The Angels book club has awarded All The Pretty Girls with 7/10.
