Our April meeting was one for our creative members and we saw an bigger turnout for Salford Angels WI with 12 new people joining in the fun. Clare Standish from Salford City Council came to inspire us with lots of ideas on how we can recycle and revive our clothes.

Each member was told to bring along an old item of clothing in which they were going to throw away or recycle and Clare was on hand to give us some ideas on how we could rejuvenate our old clothes. It was really interesting to listen to how Clare changes and updates her wardrobe and she brought along some examples including a top which used to be a dress and an old jumper invigorated with a lovely button design and a brooch.

Clare showed us some books which gave us some ideas and explained the concept of swishing – an organised event where people bring along their old clothes. Each attendee must bring at least one good item, add their item to the table and then spend time rifling through the clothes and other accessories. No claiming any items until after the Swish Countdown! After the Swish Countdown, people are free to take home any items that take their fancy. Remember – no biting or scratching!
