Eden Arts project

Eden Arts is an arts development agency based in Eden in Cumbria. It organises a fantastic programme of arts events and activities all based around a rural context.

We wanted to show our support for Eden Arts so jumped at the chance to take part in FLOCK!

FLOCK is a big public art project that anyone can join in with, contributing to a large scale art installation made up of thousands of woolly pom-pom sheep! Schools, groups, organisations and individuals are all invited to take part by making sheep & flocks for the installation, which is touring in 2012. The project’s aim is to encourage creativity and collaboration while raising awareness and celebrating the sheep farming & wool industry.

We started making our pom-pom sheep at Salford Museums ‘Spring Fling’, inviting visitors to take part and make their very own sheep. The activity then continued at our monthly knit club, so far we have made about 40 sheep.

Mags very kindly took our sheep to ‘Join the Flock’ at Woolfest, Cumbrias very own festival of wool. We were very sad to see the sheep leave home but delighted they have joined such a big, happy family! We even heard they may be travelling to London next so think we will need to plan a trip to visit them.

FLOCK is co-ordinated by Eden Arts an arts organisation in Eden in Cumbria (yes that’s sheep country). Their fells have thousands of sheep on them munching away and, together with the farmers, managing the land. It was these sheep that inspired Eden Arts to create this project.
